One of the main and favourite parts of my role within Business Support is to help business owners get organised and stay on track. A great way to do this is time blocking, not sure what it is, keep reading!

Time blocking is a time management technique that involves scheduling specific blocks of time for different tasks or activities.

Here's how to start it:

  1. List Your Tasks: Start by listing all the tasks and activities you need to accomplish. This can include work-related tasks, personal activities, and even breaks.

  2. Prioritise: Determine which tasks are most important and need your immediate attention. Consider deadlines and importance when prioritising.

  3. Allocate Blocks: Assign specific time blocks to each task on your list. Be realistic about how much time each task will take and include buffer time between blocks for unexpected interruptions.

  4. Create a Schedule: Use a digital calendar or a physical planner to create your time block schedule. Be sure to stick to the allocated time for each task.

  5. Minimise Distractions: During your time blocks, minimise distractions. Turn off notifications, close unnecessary tabs or apps, and let others know that you're not available during that time.

  6. Review and Adjust: Periodically review your time-blocking schedule to see if it's working for you. Adjust as needed to accommodate changes in priorities or unexpected events.

  7. Stick to It: The key to successful time blocking is consistency. Stick to your schedule as closely as possible, and over time, you'll become more efficient at managing your time. Even try using a timer to help you know when to stop.

  8. Flexibility: While time blocking is a structured approach, it's essential to be flexible when needed. Sometimes, unexpected things come up, and you may need to adjust your schedule accordingly. But remember replan and adjust it not just ignore things, they don't go away 😉!

Remember that time blocking can be tailored to your specific needs and preferences. Experiment with different approaches until you find a system that works best for you!
